Centenary Lakes has both freshwater and saltwater wetlands surrounded by tropical gardens, mangroves and shady walking paths. Keep an eye out for turtles, waterbirds, fish, butterflies and other wetland wildlife.
From the lakes, follow the 500-metre Rainforest Boardwalk through tropical lowland forest and melaleuca wetlands towards the Cairns Botanic Gardens. It's an easy, peaceful walk and a great little taste of the rainforest without leaving the city.
